Unspoken Superpower of Survivors

Today, following the terror attack in Manchester England, I am reminded once again of the unspoken (and unwanted) superpower of survivors – the ability to see into the immediate futures of the ones who have suddenly have the word “survivor” bestowed upon them. And I am so, so sad for what they will endure.

I am re-sharing this piece that I wrote five years ago following the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre because it applies as much now as it did then.

My heart aches not just for those who lost their friends and loved ones, but for the survivors. Their scars may not be visible, but they run deep.

Be there for them, not just today, but for the duration.
